Eventually you will receive a letter from the Tax Office demanding lodgment of your tax returns. You will then have 28 days to lodge your overdue returns.
Penalties include a late lodgment penalty of up to $550. Also if the tax office does not receive your income tax returns, they will lodge them for you based on information held in the office and you will also get a penalty equal to 75% of the tax you have to pay. E.g. if you owe $1000 tax, your penalty is $750 in addition to the tax and late lodgment penalty.
The tax office can also choose to take you to court as non lodgment of income tax returns is a breach of the Tax Act.

There will also be interest to pay if you are in a tax payable position.
The ATO will eventually catch up with your non-lodgment of tax returns.
